Bruins notebook: Add Henri Jokiharju to the long injured list
The Bruins were tied for the majority of games played going into Saturday s divisional tilt against the Detroit Red Wings That fact is showing up in the worst way workable Already besieged by injuries the B s added another body to the list with right shot defenseman Henri Jokiharju being moved to injured reserve with an unspecified injury and Michael Callahan was brought back up from Providence Jokiharju joined the unavailable list that included David Pastrnak unspecified Charlie McAvoy face Viktor Arvidsson lower body Jordan Harris ankle and Matej Blumel lower body It s a tricky injury It could be days could be I don t know So we have to manage that so Callahan will be back in disclosed coach Marco Sturm Pavel Zacha who missed Friday s meeting with an upper body injury did take part in the optional morning skate and was termed a game-time decision The Jokiharju injury leaves the B s with just one healthy right-shot defenseman Andrew Peeke With the condensed schedule due to the lengthy Olympic break coming up in February the majority teams are dealing with selected level of injury But for the B s both the volume and the caliber of players knocked out of the lineup has been particularly crippling the last couple of games It s hard to say the cause but we have had a lot more games this year because of the Olympics Way more games right after each other and all the flying That s why I m assuming It s been a lot of games at the start of the season so hopefully everyone s going to get into the rhythm and won t have more injuries going forwards explained Zacha Arvidsson agreed that the schedule has been rough It s been hectic and we ve played games already I think with a long training camp and going into a season where there s a lot of games before the break in February I think a lot of teams have faced specific adversity Our band is one of them We ve just got to stay as consistent as we can through everything We just have to keep playing commented Arvidsson Zacha noted that he suffered his injury on a faceoff early in the win on Long Island on Wednesday It just got worse progressively so I decided to take the day on Friday to try and get it better declared Zacha With injuries you want to get back as soon as you can It was just unlucky that it was also Pastrnak and we ve been struggling the last couple of weeks with injuries As a contestant you want to get back as quick as you can It s hard to watch the games when you can t help the crew While Pastrnak is special performer Zacha is an all-situations all-purpose presence for the B s Arvidsson got back on the ice for the first time during the B s optional morning skate at the Garden on Saturday I was just trying to get into the rhythm of everything so we ll see when I can start playing But there s not a lot of practice It was a good day to get out there explained Arvidsson It was good I thought I could handle specific speed and stuff and it was good to have other guys out there feel that too and have a lot of bodies there There was no more clarity on Pastrnak s injury but Sturm remained hopeful I don t think it s going to be long-term so we ll see day-by-day commented Sturm I m not going to lie it hurts you not just -on- but on the power play you could see it On Friday we were not really a threat we ve been all year long Those guys you can t replace them That s why you can t blame the Georgii Merkulovs and the Riley Tuftes because they re just not David But everyone s going through it and we have to manage that too And somehow we have to play better defensively again even better McAvoy out since November after taking a puck to the face in Montreal causing an injury that required surgery to repair was on the ice prior to the company s morning skate sporting a bubble with the chin protector underneath Sturm disclosed there is no timetable yet It was definitely nice to see him on the ice this day with a smile He looks great I think he looks better than before It was nice to see him We all feel for him It s been a tough road for him but he s been such an pivotal piece for our band mentioned Sturm They re working really hard to get him back not just the face but also his body He didn t move since Montreal lost a lot of weight so there s work to do Jonathan Aspirot was sporting four stitches and a swollen cheek after taking an errant stick on Friday but he was good to go on Saturday
